Elon Musk is an ABSOLUTE MADMAN… so buy Tesla? - April 2024 (#14)
Dearest reader, thanks again for joining me. Your dude Brent just finished the Elon Musk biography by Walter Isaacson and all I can say is WHOA!!! Today I’m sharing my takeaways as well as the actions it inspires.
Motivation
And I aspire to have F U money like Elon…
Money
I’d read the older Ashlee Vance bio years back, but it was not nearly as in depth or revealing as Walter Isaacson’s biography (or as long, this one was nearly 700 pages, woof!). Assuming it’s true, it explains a lot of what confused me about Elon Musk. Namely why he behaves so erratically and how he’s so INSANELY productive. Here’s some of the WILDEST takeaways:
His childhood was so messed up that he thinks that absurd amounts of drama, especially in family life, are the norm. He even seems to create it if things get too mellow. As an example he and his first wife Justine would argue LOUDLY in public! Like, even at restaurants an such. WHO DOES THAT!? Elon Musk, thats who…
He essentially lacks empathy (He claims its due to having aspergers). He is prone to VERY DARK mood swings where he’ll belittle people and fire them on the spot. Very much like Steve Jobs did.
He has a deep distrust for any sort of authority and rules, even if it’s to his own detriment a la his tweets hurting X’s (formerly Twitter) share price or openly criticizing the SEC.
If he puts his mind to things he gets it done, TO THE DETRIMENT OF EVERYTHING ELSE. He doesn’t believe in work life balance, his motto is to be ‘HARDCORE.’ He expects the people who work for him to be the same way. The book has several examples of him rolling up on a job site on a weekend night and flipping out because he didn’t see enough people working.
He CONSTANTLY refers to a production algorithm he’s created for simplifying things. So often his lieutenants mouth it as he lists them in meetings. (actually found this super useful)
He is EXTREMELY FOCUSED on goals such as energy sustainability and getting to mars. He makes virtually all decisions based on what accomplishes his goals faster.
Love him or hate him it’s tough to argue with the scoreboard. His track record for getting things done is unparalleled. He just operates at another level compared to virtually everyone else. So what to do with this information?
Here’s a thought… Right now Tesla is struggle bussing big time. They recently missed earnings forecasts, and for the first time ever they’ve produced way more cars than they sold. I’m personally inclined to be a buyer at these prices. Why? For all the reasons listed above! He’s an absolute MADMAN and I selfishly want to benefit from his madness! Pleasant attributes or not they’ve historically produced INCREDIBLE results, so I want in!
FINAL MEMES
He’s an inspiration for all of us dudes with a receding hairline…
That’s all folks!
